Peel It Off!

How often are you peeling it off?

Facial peels are a beneficial aspect of every facial rejuvenation regimen. The purpose of a skin peel is to literally encourage the very top layer of skin to shed.

Depending of the type of peel, the concentration of the acid or chemical used and the length of time the treatment remains on the skin all directly affect the results that can be achieved.

DIY home facial peels typically use a fruit or lactic acid to gently exfoliate away the dead cells that collect on the surface of the skin without the side-effects of a professional chemical peel.

Most home peels are mild enough to be used every few weeks depending on your skin type.

Professional cosmetic peels use stronger acids and chemicals that penetrate deeper to peel away several layers of skin. Because they can be very powerful they are typically performed by a medically certified practitioner once or twice a year.

Even a light DIY facial peel will improve superficial scarring, skin texture, fine lines and sun damage. The professional peels are formulated to treat the deeper wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, and more pronounced acne scars.

AHA, BHA, Lactic Acid, Jessner's and
TCA (tricholoracetric) peels are all documented
as highly effective and available in many different strengths.

However, facial peels in higher concentrations for deeper peels require a handful of days "down time" and should only be performed by a licensed professional because they are using the acid in powerful strengths that literally burn away several layers of skin.

Or of course, you make your own!

Fruit acid peels are gentle enough for weekly use and only require combining a few natural ingredients right from your pantry. (The special natural skin care recipe of the month included in this newsletter is a gentle fruit acid gelatin peel.)

Yellow Chompers?

Are your teeth as white as they used to be?

There is nothing worse than seeing a person with beautiful skin flash a radiant smile that reveals yellow or stained teeth is there? Yellowing chompers are a sign of age and not at all attractive.

So whiten them!

Truly, it takes years off your appearance and couldn't be easier.

Although you can always get the several hundred dollar professional ZOOM laser whitening treatment but it costs only $30 or so to do it yourself.

Be forewarned though, it takes patience and persistence but you will be rewarded with a brighter, whiter smile.

Here's the plan:

  • Pick-up a whitening kit at your local drug store that includes a "make-it-yourself" whitening mold for your teeth.

  • Then for the professional whitening solution, beeline to your Dentist's office and purchase the strongest whitening stuff they have. The 25% to 38% solutions take only 10 to 30 minutes a treatment.

Results are gradual. Depending on the amount of staining, it will take several treatments over the course of a few weeks.

Tip: If you have sensitive teeth, start using sensitive toothpaste before and during your whitening process.

In no time at all you'll love how white and bright your smile is. . . Guaranteed!

Fruit Acid Facial Peel

Are you familiar with those rather pricey Biore Strips that are suppose to unclog pores?

Why not save your money and accomplish the very same thing by doing it yourself?

The same principal is at work with this homemade natural peel except that it is much cheaper, gently exfoliates, helps to repair sun damage, and provides a rich antioxidant infusion to promote skin health.

  • Juice from selected fruit (see below)
  • 1/2 teaspoon finely minced rosemary leaves
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1 to 2 teaspoons of plain, unflavored gelatin
Select a fruit that is best suited to your skin type:

Dry and sensitive skin types: peach, apple, pear, apricot, papaya
Normal to oily skin types: grapefruit, lemon, lime, orange, pineapple

Juice the fruit into a microwave safe bowl. Depending on the amount of juice, sprinkle in one to two teaspoons gelatin. Stir in rosemary and honey. Microwave on high until the gelatin has dissolved completely. Stir again.

Refrigerate to cool for 10 to 15 minutes. While cooling, either give yourself a herbal facial steam or place a warm, moist wash cloth on your face for 5 to 10 minutes.

When the gelatin mixture has cooled and begun to thicken, stir again then apply a thin layer to your face. Kick your feet up and relax for 20 minutes as the mask dries, tightens and is no longer sticky to touch.

Peel it off and rinse with cold water to further tighten pores.

TCA and Other Facial Peels

Even giving yourself a home facial peel once every few months can make a huge difference over time in the texture and tone of your skin.

Remember to select a strength suitable for your skin type and follow the directions exactly. For example, if you have dry or sensitive skin start with a very low concentration so your skin doesn't react by becoming red, raw and swollen!

Ironing Away Wrinkles

How can something so quick and easy iron away wrinkles?

Of course, your first question is, "Does it really work?" See for yourself. . .
