Spring Facial Cleaning ~ Putting Some Spring into Your Skin Care

Facial Rejuvenation 1Yup! It's time to Spring into Action!

As you start switching your wardrobe for lighter, brighter clothes you also need to do the same with your facial and beauty products!

It's time for out with the old, in with the new.

Did you know that skin care and beauty products have a "shelf" life just like other products?

The active ingredients degrade over time with the variation of temperatures and exposure to light. To get the full benefit of your anti-aging treatments, you want to be sure that your products are fresh and new for the best results.

To transition your facial rejuvenation regimen from winter to spring consider the following strategies:
  • Switch to a lighter moisturizer, preferably one with UVB and UVA protection

  • As temperatures rise so does the body's tendency to sweat. For many, this heralds in those dreaded acne outbreaks. To reduce the occurrence of blemishes; sensitive to normal skin types benefit from including a light morning application of a 8% to 12% glycolic acid gel layered on after toning but before moisturizing. Oily skin types benefit from a 2% salicylic acid.

  • More frequent exfoliation will not only encourage cell turnover but keep the pores clean. Believe it or not, a light facial and body scrub a few times a week will result in a more even tan, especially if you utilize a self-tanning product. The trick is to use a scrub 24 to 48 hours prior to applying a self-tanning product. This will result in less streaking and a more even application.

Tip: A few tablespoons of brown sugar is a quick and easy natural skin care scrub option.

  • Select a very mild cleanser that is tailored for your skin type: normal, menopausal, oily, sensitive, dry, or acne prone.

  • If you use foundation, try a sheer product that also includes a sun screening additive.

  • Keep your skin free from the oils and dirt that build-up throughout the day by keeping a few facial toning wipes with you to gently cleanse and refresh the skin throughout the day. Select facial wipes that are alcohol and astringent free and are formulated with active anti-aging ingredients, (or make your own). The natural skin care recipe of the month below is a perfect rejuvenating and refreshing choice. :-)

  • On those hot, dry days keep a small spray bottle of an antioxidant rich facial mist to give your skin a quick rejuvenating skin "perk-up".

  • To avoid unnecessary skin reactions, check with your Pharmacist or Doctor to learn whether any of your medications creates greater sensitivity with exposure to the sun.

  • Try substituting an anti-aging serum for one of your daily rejuvenation treatments because they usually have a greater concentration of active rejuvenating ingredients and are lighter-weight.

Finally, your skin will reward you for your spring cleaning deep rejuvenating efforts when you include a weekly facial mask, steam and/or a DIY microdermabrasion treatment. And for all you spa loving gadget gals, (I do so love my facial spa gadgets, don't you?) now is a great time to dust off all your favorites and put some real spring into your skin.

These are some of the Best Anti-Aging Skin Care Treatment Solutions that I have used and can highly recommend.

A Few Simple Truths About Adult Acne

You've all probably heard the opposing myths that it is your diet that is the main cause of acne. Then there is the opposite one that states that diet has nothing to do with causing outbreaks.

So what the heck does one believe?

The truth actually lies somewhere in the middle of these two "conclusive" statements that are reported by different and varying clinical studies.

A consistent diet high in fat can make your face oilier because the sebum output by your skin increases. And you guessed it, if you aren't fanatical about keeping your skin free of excessive oils, bacteria can easily find its way in via a gazillion different ways to create a plantation of pimples.

Other research suggests that for older people dairy products can trigger acne outbreaks as well as diets high in sugar, processed foods and carbohydrates.

Me? Although everyone is different, by following the various recommendations in clinical research, I have found that prevention is by far the very best remedy of all.

By enjoying all my favorite foods in moderation (including chocolate- YUM!), a reasonably healthy diet, exercise, adequate sleep and a good anti-aging skin care regimen is the best way to ensure that the skin remains blemish free.

More on adopting an Anti-Aging Lifestyle.

Refreshing Mint Facial Toning Wipes

skin care recipesMaking your own toning wipes to keep your skin fresh and clean from the accumulation of dirt and oils that collect throughout the day as the spring season starts to heat up is a wonderful way to provide your skin with a bounty of nutrients and antioxidants that will keep it healthy and vibrant looking all season long.

This quick and easy rejuvenating facial toning recipe combines the benefits of both AHA and BHA. The recipe is also loaded with potent skin rejuvenating anti-aging properties along with very powerful exfoliating, healing, antibacterial and antiseptic properties.

  • 1 large sprig of mint or peppermint (At least 5 to 7 large leaves)
  • 2 tablespoons of green tea leaves or 3 tea bags
  • 5 crushed aspirin (plain, generic brand is fine)
  • 1/2 orange: grate the rind, juiced
  • 3/4 cup plain mineral water
Simmer all ingredients together for 10 minutes. Let cool completely. Soak cosmetic pads in the mixture. Gently squeeze out each pad slightly.

Layer the toner infused cosmetic pads and store in a container or plastic baggie. Freeze. Take a few with you during the day to keep face fresh, clean and free from dirt and oils while providing revitalizing antioxidants, essential vitamins and minerals to your skin throughout the day.

Eliminate the Biggest Wrinkle Causers from Your Life

wrinkle treatments Hey, you can quickly and easily eliminate five confirmed "wrinkle causers" from your life just by following these simple strategies.

(Yes, really.)

. . .And they aren't a big secret either!

The CBS Early Show recently featured Genevieve Monsma, Beauty Director, who demonstrates how a few changes can quickly abolish these common age and wrinkles accelerators.

Don't Let Your Sleep Create Even More Wrinkles!

Introducing the Therapeutica
Anti-Aging Sleeping Pillow

"The connection between wrinkles and how you sleep is no joke," says Rodan, an associate clinical professor of dermatology at Stanford University.

For side-sleepers, if you compare each side of your face, you will notice that you have the most wrinkles and deeper lines on the side that you most frequently sleep on!

Rodan recommends the Therapeutica Sleeping Pillow because it is contoured to cradle your head and neck, making it easier to lie on your back.
