Tretinoin Information
Vitamin A ~
Retinoic Acid
Technical
information on tretinoin is essentially a study in vitamin
A used as a topical treatment for both acne and skin
rejuvenation.
The Vitamin A acid, tretinoin, is retinoic acid.
Retinoic acid
is a natural organic compound found in natural products
containing carotene, such as carrots or pumpkins as well as dark leafy
greens such as spinach.
Skin care products containing tretinoin as an
active ingredient are only available by prescription such as Renova and
Retin A.
Typically tretinoin is prescribed to
treat acne although it has
become increasingly popular as an anti-aging treatment as well.
Because
Vitamin A is absorbed by the skin so well it is able to stimulate cell
renewal.
New skin
cells increase collagen production giving the skin
a fuller, firmer look and that translates into a younger more youthful
appearance!
Studies have demonstrated that vitamin A
treatments:
- reduce
both wrinkles and fine lines
- increase collagen production
- smooth skin
texture
- increase skin thickness
- improve elasticity
- improve acne
- improve overall skin tone
- diminishes mottled pigmentation
- increases
skin hydration
The dryness, flaking, and redness which can be caused by any vitamin A
skin
care product is particularly associated with this retinoic acid.
On the
up side, as the
strongest of the vitamin A treatments, all of
which
have been clinically proven to have significant and effective results
for rejuvenating aging skin, tretinoin can treat some of those more
stubborn aging skin symptoms.
There are several types of
vitamin A treatments of which trentoin is
the most powerful.
If your skin is sensitive, it makes sense to just
use the
prescription version of vitamin A to spot treat the areas you are
concerned about the most.
As with other skin care products, more is not
better! If your skin starts to become irritated, simply stop using the
tretinoin cream for a few days to eliminate the risk of damaging your
skin.
Since any vitamin A product
increases your skin's sensitivity to
the sun, be sure to use sunscreen as needed throughout the day
